A Big Thank You!!!

We wish to place on record our heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation to Mr G Kannan – Old Boy of St Joseph’s College Bandarawela and a long-time friend, for his support for our cause and generosity towards VACD by donating a much needed new fridge freezer to the new centre. This is a great example of community support which is vital for us to continue on our mission to assist our children and their families.

Collaborative Partnerships:
  • The partnership arrangement between VACD and The Lak Saviya Foundation established under a memorandum of understanding signed on 29th June 2012 has since been revoked by mutual consent.  We wish to place on record our deep appreciation for all the guidance and support given to us by Roy Abeygoonawardana – President, Tissa Liyanage – Past President, Jude Fernando – Committee Member and reserve our special and deep appreciation and thanks for Prabhath Amarasinghe – Treasurer for carrying the administrative burden that VACD placed on him for many years in a friendly, understanding, patient, caring and true professional manner.
  • We have agreed to be collaborative partners with the charity “Make Some Change” and thank our mutual friend David Louie who introduced us to Aron (Founding Partner) and Louise (Founding Partner & Strategic Advisor) Mercer who extended the invitation for VACD to be partners with them. Please do look them up on their webpage:http://www.makesomechange.com
Sourcing of Specialist Volunteers:
Our special thanks to His Excellency Mr Somasundaram Skandakumar – Sri Lanka High Commissioner to Australia and the Deputy Sri Lankan High Commissioner to Sri Lanka - Mrs Himalee Arunatilaka for assisting us to make the right connections to source volunteer physiotherapists, speech therapists, life Skills Trainers and specialist education trainers to work with our children in Sri Lanka, under an Australian Government sponsored program .

Upcoming event:
The VACD leadership in Sri Lanka will formally present a collaborative partnership proposal to the Uva Provincial council on Wednesday, 16th March at the request of the Chief Secretary, Uva Provincial Council.

Just concluded:
A parents’ group was established in Mahiyangana which is a pre requisite to opening a centre in this highly impoverished area in the Uva province of Sri Lanka which also has a significantly high number of disabled children. Parents’ groups already exist in Badulla and Bandarawela with plans to establish similar groups in Welimada and Wellawaya. The Uva is the poorest province in Sri Lanka with disproportionately high numbers of disabled children and child mortality rates in the Mahiyangana and Wellawaya secretariat districts.

Activity Update:
  • The Regional Development Bank (RDB) Bandarawela, in partnership with VACD Ltd continues to extend micro financing to parents of VACD Ltd registered children.
  • Our receiving tax deductibility has led to some existing sponsors to increase the number of children they sponsor, and as a result we have been able to extend assistance to more children under the Educational Assistance Program (EAP)
Funding needs:
  • As VACD extends its reach across the Uva province of Sri Lanka, our funding requirements have grown quite sharply.
  • Although we have not specifically requested any financial support from you in a very long time, any assistance you can give us will be deeply appreciated, specially given that Australian based donors are entitled to tax deductibility through to our DGR status.

Please visit our webpage: http://www.vacd.org.au/  for more information on VACD and to support our children and their families with your donations via direct credit or through the credit card payment system located in the dropdown menu under  “Donate”.

As always, thank you for joining us on this most rewarding of journeys and the very best to you and your loved ones now and in the future.

Many thanks, best wishes, warm regards, love and God Bless...Yasmin
